How to Build a Stronger Connection with your Audience

How to Build a Stronger Connection with your Audience

Hey babes, welcome back to the blog! This post is about how to build a stronger connection with your audience. A lot of times, it feels like we get so caught up in growing our audience, we forget to foster the audience we currently have.

It’s almost more important (in my opinion) to build the connection with your current audience than to only want to grow a new audience. If you’re only focused on growing, the audience you currently have might leave. This post shares how to build that connection and keep your current audience wanting more.

How to build a stronger connection with your audience:

  • Create a story schedule

    • Ex: Makeup Monday’s, Youtube Tuesdays, Wednesday Q&A, etc.

    • Helps your audience know what to expect from you

    • I used to do this and want to get back to this consistency

  • Talking on your IG stories instead of just posting photos

    • show your audience what you sound like, your personality, your vibe

    • You want them to know who you are!

  • Share your personality and talk how you would normally with your friends/family

    • It can take time and/or practice getting comfortable with talking on camera to your audience, it’s intimidating at first!

    • Avoid the “customer service” voice - you don’t want to sound fake or planned. It may start like this, but over time, you will get more comfortable

  • Showing your face frequently

    • Don’t always use a ton of filters

      • IMO - it’s okay to use filters but maybe not the ones that make you look completely different. It’s good to do a mix of filters and no filter

  • Get more vulnerable

    • Get your audience INVESTED in your life! If you’re comfortable, start incorporating and sharing the small moments in your life

      • Your bf/gf, any pets, home decor, things you’re excited about, accomplishments, vulnerable SMALL moments!

    • sharing more every day content

  • Show things that you love and things that your audience could possibly RELATE TO

    • Examples: Clothing trends/styles, certain products you’re obsessed with, food, meals, workout routine, etc.

    • Having an even mix of sponsored + not sponsored.

      • You don’t want your only stories to be sponsored only because your audience will learn that behavior and might avoid your stories

      • Share your favorites even if it’s not sponsored! BUILD TRUST.

    • This gives your followers more of an idea of what you’re like and what makes you unique in the industry - maybe they will relate to something you’d never think of.

  • Frequent Q+As

    • share more about your life and giving your audience the opportunity to ask more questions and feel like you’re besties

    • Note: training your audience to ask questions can take time, and you may not get any questions at first but that’s okay and normal

    • Try to be consistent with this!

  • Make your audience feel like they’re included in your decision making

    • Example: Use POLLS - ask their opinions when you’re shopping

    • People like to share their opinions and feel heard

    • If you purchase something that someone voted for, they may feel connected to that purchase

  • Asking for recs make them feel more included

    • Example: travel recs, food recs, where to buy something, etc.

    • Share the recs on your stories so others can potentially use them too!

  • Make sure your stories are very AUTHENTIC and not mirroring someone else on IG!!

    • It’s easy to copy someone on what is “working” for them, but that might not be what works for you and your audience

    • Be true to yourself (yes sounds cliche, but it’s true)

    • Don’t force something because it’s trendy

      • Ex. I don’t love halloween, so I don’t post a ton about it even though some people are going all out.

I hope these tips help you babes! I know I definitely need to work on some of these things myself, but we all know there is so much to manage around IG. It’s a lot, so just do your best and what works for you.
